Hometown: Fenwick, Ontario

Ph.D., University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, 2010

B.Sc.H, Microbiology, Univeristy of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, 2003

I completed a Bachelors degree with honours in Microbiology from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada in 2003. During this time I completed several work terms with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and Agriculture Canada. These work terms provided me with diverse perspectives on plant pathology from practical, scientific, and regulatory points of view. I worked for 3 years in the laboratory of Dr. John Sutton at the University of Guelph, where I investigated the use of biological control agents on various pathogens of vegetable and ornamental crops grown in hydroponic systems. I started graduate school in 2004 under the supervision of Dr. Greg Boland at the University of Guelph and completed my PhD in March of 2010. My PhD research investigated the effect of a mitochondrial virus, Ophiostoma mitovirus 3a on the physiology of the dollar spot fungus, Sclerotinia homoeocarpa. I enjoyed several teaching assistance positions during my PhD and hope to have the opportunity to teach plant pathology and microbiology courses to students in the future. I have been a member of the Canadian Phytopathological Society (CPS) since 2003 and the American Phytopathological Society (APS) since 2009.

Dr. Venu Reddyvari Channarayappa

Venu is involved in the secretome analysis of Sclerotinia homoeocarpa (dollar spot fungus on turfgrass) using integrated genomic, proteomic and metabolomic approaches
