News from Plant Pathology : 2016 News and Highlights

  1. Mark your calendars! The 2017-2018 academic year will mark the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Plant Pathology as a stand alone department.

    The anniversary year will kick off with a reunion luncheon on July 1, 2017 on the Columbus campus followed by a Sunday gathering in Wooster.  The event is open to all interested.  Info will be posted in the coming year on our 50th anniversary website,

Terry Niblack continues to serve in her role as acting senior associate dean for the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).  Mike Boehm, Ohio State vice provost (and our former department chair and Ph.D. graduate), assumed a new leadership position at the University of Nebraska's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

  3. In 2016, Guo-Liang Wang was one of four Ohio State faculty who were elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)The Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) honored

  4. In Autumn, Plant Pathology had 40 students in the MS and PhD program, and 15 enrolled students in the professional Master in Plant Health Management (administered by Plant Pathology and Entomology).

  5. The Master in Plant Health Management Graduate Program continues to grow, with over 15 students enrolled, including 7 students in the MPHM-Online option.  Several more are taking advantage of online and distance course offerings.

  6. The undergraduate program continues to grow, with 20 Plant Pathology majors and 5 Plant Health Management majors (Autumn 2016 enrollment).

  7. We invite you to connect with us by participating in teaching and Extension activities, hosting tours, providing job shadow opportunities, giving seminars, informally meeting with students, and hiring and referring students and employees to Plant Pathology. We also welcome presentations about plant health or career/professional development topics that can be delivered remotely via webinar.
