Summer Research Internships in Plant Pathology

We invite you to explore the field of plant pathology through our Summer Research Internship in Plant Pathology, or SRIPP.

Plant pathology, or the study of plant disease, encompasses a broad range of disciplines, including molecular genetics, ecology, agricultural sciences and more.  Even students interested in the medical or veterinary fields may find intriguing parallels in plant systems, particularly in molecular biology, microbiology and disease management.   Interns have the opportunity to develop research skills, meet new people, build their resumes, and have a great time doing it.

The 10-week paid internship offers opportunities in:

  • Soybean Pathology - openings available for Soybean Rust project
  • Microbial Ecology
  • Molecular Biology/Plant Pathology
  • Crop Pathology
  • Tree Pathology/Ecology
  • Rice Genomics
  • Ornamental Pathology
  • Other areas

Explore our Faculty Research Directory.  You are welcome to contact faculty to inquire about their programs.  While not all faculty in the Department still have internship openings for this summer, there are many exciting possibilities at Ohio State!

Locations - Columbus and Wooster

The Department of Plant Pathology is located on both the Ohio State Columbus campus and the OARDC Wooster campus.  Student interns visit both sites in orientation tours.    Ohio map

Internships may involve laboratory and/or field based research, depending on the project.

Interns can also participate in field trips, seminars and workshops, career and graduate study sessions, and various research forums on and off-campus.

At the end of the internship, students will give presentations on their research experiences.

Students in the SRIPP program typically begin the week after Ohio State Commencement (June 9, 2008), but starting dates are flexible depending on the student and advisor schedules.
