Multi-disciplinary Collaborations
Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Program (PMBB)
PMBB is a university-wide interdisciplinary research and graduate training program. Graduate students in the PMBB program can tailor their curriculum and research towards more basic and molecular areas. PMBB includes about 30 faculty members from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, and the College of Biological Sciences. Plant Pathology faculty in the PMBB program include Pierluigi (Enrico) Bonello, David Coplin, Brian McSpadden Gardener, Thomas Mitchell, Margaret Redinbaugh and Guo-liang Wang.
Environmental Science Graduate Program
The Environmental Science Graduate Program is a multi-college endeavor at Ohio State and is comprised of faculty from the Colleges of Biological Sciences; Engineering; Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences; Mathematical and Physical Sciences; Medicine; Social and Behavioral Sciences; and Veterinary Medicine. The program's goal is the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of environmental science. The program emphasizes basic research on ecological processes and effects, and applied research and teaching towards environmental issues.
USDA ARS Corn and Soybean Research Unit
This interdisciplinary group, based in Selby Hall at OARDC - Wooster, includes USDA/ARS scientists and faculty from Plant Pathology, Horticulture and Crop Science, and Entomology. CSRU is interested in all aspects of the biology, etiology, genetics and control of viruses that infect corn and soybeans.
Ohio Plant Biotechnology Consortium (OPBC)
OPBC is a statewide initiative that brings together approximately 70 scientists from 11 Ohio universities to foster collaboration on issues important to Ohio agriculture. OPBC hosts an annual research retreat and sponsors a Competitive Research Grants Program, administered by the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC). Terry Graham, Professor, Department of Plant Pathology, is currently Ohio State's representative on the OPBC Administrative Committee.
Ohio Composting and Manure Management Program (OCAMM)
OCAMM includes an interdisciplinary OARDC group that focuses on the microbial ecology and engineering of the composting process to improve systems for handling plant and animal wastes in an environmentally sound manner. Areas include composting, microbial ecology, biological processes and bioremediation. The facilities at OARDC - Wooster include building equipment for pilot-scale composting of a wide range of feedstocks.
Organic Food and Farm Education and Research (OFFER)
OFFER is a multidisciplinary program that includes researchers, farmers and other stakeholders. Research is focused on development of production and marketing strategies for transitional and certified organic grains, vegetables and fruit. Fundamental research is also conducted on the interactions between soil quality, weed ecology, microbial ecology, crop quality, and plant productivity. Ohio State was the lead institution for a multi-institutional grant that led to the formation of the Organic Agricultural Consortium. Cooperating institutions are North Carolina State University, Iowa State University, Tufts University, and the Organic Farming Research Foundation.
