Pattavipha Songkumarn, PhD student in plant pathology at The Ohio State University, received the Best Poster award at the Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (PMBB) Annual Symposium in Columbus, Ohio, April 24-25, 2009. Songkumarn, who is studying with Guo-Liang Wang, presented, "Isolation and functional analysis of novel secreted proteins in Magnaporthe oryzae," with co-authors Songbiao Chen, Malali Gowda, Reddyvari Channarayappa Venu, Thomas K. Mitchell and Wang. The PMBB program enhances interdisciplinary collaborations between 30 scientists from different colleges and departments at Ohio State in the area of plant molecular biology and biotechnology. |

June 2009 - Chan Ho Park, PhD student with Guo-Liang Wang, was named recipient of the C. C. Allison Award to honor academic achievement and service to the Department of Plant Pathology. |
Park was recognized for outstanding research, excellent academic record, and service to the Plant Pathology Graduate Students Association and the Graduate Studies Committee. Park will be presented with an $800 cash award and plaque, and his name will be engraved on the C. C. Allison award plaques in the Columbus and Wooster department offices. The award was announced at an end-of-quarter gathering at the home of Thomas and Ellen Mitchell on June 6, with several faculty and students in attendance. 2009 OARDC Annual Conference Miguel Vega Sánchez was honored with the 2009 OARDC William E. Krauss Director's Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies, which is awarded for the best paper by a doctoral student in 2008. Vega Sánchez completed his PhD in August 2008 with advisor Dr. Guo-Liang Wang. Vega Sánchez and Wang were recognized at the OARDC Annual Research Conference on April 23 in Columbus. |
The award-winning publication, published in The Plant Cell, provides the first evidence linking the molecular/cellular processes of ubiquitination and RNA/DNA metabolism in flowering time control in plants, which could lead to the development of new strategies to improve disease resistance as well as flowering time control in crop plants. > More
