Adipala Ekwamu from Kampala, Uganda, has been named recipient of a 2010 CFAES International Alumni Award. The award recognizes Dr. Ekwamu's extensive role in agricultural development in East Africa and the transofrmation of Sub-Saharan African agricultural research through plant disease control, plant health management programs, and collaborative relationships among universities. Dr. Ekwamu recieved his PhD in plant pathology in 1992 with faculty advisor Dr. Patrick Lipps. Dr. Ekwamu and 15 other alumni will be honored at an awards ceremony, March 6, 2010, at the Fawcett Center of Tomorrow, Ohio State campus, Columbus. More > Plant Pathology Alumni Awards

Larry Madden had been named Distinguished Professor of Plant Protection in the Department of Plant Pathology. Near left, Dr. Madden is presented with a plaque by Department Chair Mike Boehm on Oct. 14, 2008. The professorship is associated with a Plant Protection Endowment. The department is pleased to recognize Dr. Madden's international reputation in plant epidemiology and plant pathology with this honor. |

Blair F. Janson, faculty member from 1950-1976, established the Blair F. Janson and Wilmer G. Stover Scholarship with an endowment that will fund travel grants for undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Janson was honored in Columbus on July 24, 2008. > More |

2008 CFAES Distinguished Alumni Award
Pictured: Dr. James Starr (right), Professor of Plant Pathology at Texas A&M University, with former Department Chair Dr. Ira Deep (center) and his wife, Marie, at the CFAES Alumni Society Awards luncheon on March 1, 2008, in Columbus. Dr. Starr is a renowned plant nematologist who has transformed disease management for peanut and cotton crops in Texas and worldwide. A native of the Dayton, Ohio area, he earned his BS (1971) and MS (1972) in plant pathology from Ohio State, and PhD from Cornell University. Dr. Starr is a Fellow of the Society of Nematology and the American Phytopathological Society, and has received numerous industry awards for his work on peanut diseases. For his many accomplishments in research and teaching, and his professional service and leadership, we congratulate Dr. Starr as recipient of a CFAES Distinguished Alumni Award.
2007 CFAES International Alumni Award
Dr. Fikrettin Sahin is Chair of the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering and Director of the Institute of Biotechnology at Yeditepe University in Turkey, where he is an authority on vegetable diseases. He received the 2007 CFAES International Alumni Award and was lauded for his key role in developing ties between CFAES and Turkish institutions.
